Qualification Programme

Your PhD

The qualification programme is designed to support PhD students in exploiting the full potential of the highly interdisciplinary research environment of the RTG and optimally integrate the avail-able expertise and subject cultures for a successful execution of their individual doctoral projects. This will enable a reduction of the four years typically required to obtain a PhD in such interdisci-plinary projects down to an anticipated duration of about 3½ years.
For each generation of PhD students, a three-year programme accompanying and supporting the individual research work of the PhD students in the laboratories is structured along:

  1. the Initiation & In-depth phase (first year)
  2. the Lab & Discourse phase (second year)
  3. the Publication, Expert & PhD phase (third year)

The phases are composed of a set of qualification courses that allows for a dynamic and individual accompaniment of the PhD students' development and accord with the specific requirements of the RTG research programme. The sequence restarts in the 4th year along with the start-up of the forthcoming PhD generation and opens the possibility for these advanced re-searchers of the 1st generation to act as tutors for the 2nd generation, ensuring a smooth transition of generations.
