We highly recommend a stroll through the cobblestoned streets of Osnabrück's old town, which is only a short walk away from the conference venue. At the heart of the old town you will come across Osnabrück's historic town hall, where one of the two treaties of the Peace of Westphalia was negotiated and signed in 1648. Since Osnabrück is the birthplace of Erich Maria Remarque, author of Im Westen nichts Neues (All Quiet on the Western Front), the literary-inclined will enjoy a visit to the   Erich Maria Remarque museum next to the historic town hall. Those interested in art and history will enjoy Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, which is part of the  Osnabrück Museum Quarter

If the moody weather of Osnabrück permits, the city also offers plenty of outdoor activities. Participants fond of hiking will enjoy a trip to the nearby  Piesberg and all the area has to offer, or, if you prefer level surface, a walk around the  Rubbenbruchsee. In the university's  botanical garden you will find plants from around the world and an Amazon rainforest greenhouse.

Osnabrück is located close to the lovely Teutoburg Forest. Hikers might want to try the  Baumwipfelpfad track starting in Bad Iburg. You can get there by car via the B51, or by bus using line S40 from Osnabrück Neumarkt to Charlottensee station in Bad Iburg (once every 30 minutes).

Those interested in history will enjoy  Kalkriese, where German tribal warriors defeated three Roman legions in the famous Varusschlacht battle in the 9th century. You can get there by car via the B68, A1 and B218, or by various public transport connections, e.g. using lines X585 and 260 from Osnabrück Neumarkt via Engter Eiker Weg (Bramsche) to Kalkriese Varusschlacht station.
